11 Doctoral Student Positions

beginning October 1st, 2006 or later

The IRTG involves research groups in the departments of Chemistry and Biology of
the Georg-August-University Göttingen/Germany, the Max-Planck Institute of
Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen and the Chemical Center of Lund University/Sweden. It offers a distinguished doctoral program based in Göttingen that comprises extensive exchange with Lund.
The interdisciplinary program provides exciting research opportunities in exploring
the role of metal ions in biological systems by structural biology, biochemical and
spectroscopic methods, and chemical model systems. Novel bio-inspired synthetic
metal complexes will be developed for medical and catalytic applications.
Participating research groups in Göttingen are: Dr. Bennati (EPR spectroscopy), Prof.
Diederichsen (Bioorganic Chemistry), Prof. Einsle (Structural Biology), Prof.
Feussner (Plant Biochemistry), Prof. Griesinger (NMR spectroscopy), Prof. Meyer
(Bioinorganic and Inorganic Chemistry), Prof. Schulzke (Bioinorganic and Inorganic
Chemistry), and Prof. Sheldrick (Structural Chemistry).
The high-level teaching program consists of excursions, lectures, and courses in all
relevant state-of-the-art technologies as well as joint workshops in Lund and
Göttingen.

The program is intended for selected applicants from all countries holding an
excellent academic degree (Master degree, German Diplom or equivalent) in
chemistry, biochemistry, biology or related fields. It provides 11 fellowships of up to
Euro 1.350 per month. Applicants should submit a full CV, a description of their
research interests, names of two scientists/teachers that might provide letters of
recommendation, copies of degree certificates and academic transcripts by e-mail to
